Dear Friends and Colleagues,
This time last year, who could have foreseen what 2020 would bring? It has been a tumultuous and very difficult year, we all have suffered deprivation of our freedom, our routine work schedule has been disrupted and we have missed being able to gather together in person to share ideas, expertise and learning.
If you or your loved ones have experienced illness, we hope that they are on the road to recovery. If you have been bereaved, we send our deepest condolences.
Never before has science been so constantly in the consciousness of the general public and under such scrutiny, spotlighting the importance of scientific and clinical research, medical technology, health workers of all kinds, national healthcare infrastructures and all the elements that must come together with the aim of fighting disease and suffering. ESM members and supporters all play a part in this and we can all be very proud of that fact.
Despite everything, as a society we look forward to 2021 with a sense of hope that we will start to see the beginning of the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and life will return to some version of normality, with the help of the vaccine. We hope that we will be able to come together again in person later in the year, but at this stage this is not certain. We will keep in touch with you and do whatever we can to make it happen, as long as it is safe to do so.
In the meantime, please have a look at the other initiatives we have put in place this year to stay in touch with our membership and help us continue to deliver the aims of our society. We are planning innovative initiatives such as the “best paper of the quarter” for young investigators and a new series of webinars. Very soon we will also launch the call for the traditional ESM Awards. So, stay tuned and check our web site!
I thank you for your continued support of ESM.
I wish all our members, supporters, partners and collaborators warm greetings for a happy and healthy year ahead.
